48 Hours in Barcelona
I just spent the last 48 hours in Barcelona and so far it is at the top of my list....I wonder how many times I will say that on my trip....It has the feel of some of Southern Spain but with a medditerrenean twist plus it is very cosmopolitan...First off, I checked out many of the Gaudi sites, who everyone here is quick to point out, is the greatest architect in the history of the world. Looking at his work, it is hard to disagree. I will post some pics but some of his houses and the park he developed are truly amazing. His use of color, shape and materials was way ahead of his time. He even used recycled materials. Very impressive because this was 75 to 100 yrs ago. The Sagrada Familia, a church he began developing, is still not complete, but when it is finished, it will be one of the greatest wonders of the world. I was awestruck from the first time on the trip and keep in mind that I was just at the Alhambra. I have just been told that my flight to krakow has been delayed tommorow until 7 pm tomorrow night but this is really great news since I have a few extra hours tomorrow to check out the rest of Barcelona. It is the kind of city I feel very comfortable in. From the views on the mountains to walking along the Meditteranean to the great art at the Picasso Musuem and the Pablo Espanyol (where artisans work right in front of you), I was not expecting the city to be this amazing. Unfortunately, the computer I am on right now does not have a CD drive so I will post some pics when I get back to my hostel...
