So I finally figured out how to set up a blog and post a picture of myself. Not too hard actually. Most of you reading this probably know that I have set up this blog to track my travels across the globe. I leave in about three weeks in which time I have to finish up work, pack and store all my possessions, toast my best friend at his wedding and, of course, see everyone before I leave. In this first post, I have decided to answer all of the most frequent questions I have received so far relating to my trip. Some of you may recognize them because you asked them:
1. Why are you doing this? Are you burnt out or something?
No, I am not burnt out. I am doing this because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'm young and relatively unattached and time is running out on any opportunity to do something like this for a long time. Just asked any of my married friends, particularly those with kids. I have not done extensive traveling and will definitely benefit personally and professionally from learning about all of the different cultures. Oh yeah, and it will be a blast.
2. You didn't really quit your job, did you? I do not want to pay for your unemployment when you get back.
That depends on who you ask. I gave three weeks notice. But luckily, my law firm has been gracious enough to offer me a position in their San Diego office when I return. So it looks like I may be on temporary leave.
3. How long are you going for and where are you going?
I will be gone for 8 months. I will post my itinerary later, but roughly 6 weeks in Europe, 5 weeks in the Middle East, 7 weeks in Asia, 4 weeks in Australia, 2 weeks in New Zealand, 2 weeks in Fiji and 6 weeks in South America. Yes, in that order.
4. How can I get in touch with you while you are away?
Believe it or not, we are not the only country with e-mail. E-mail me at "davideisler@hotmail.com" I promise I will check.
5. How can you possibly miss the Mets 2007 Championship run?
They also have TV's in other countries. But most importantly, I will be sure to catch their 2008 and 2009 runs to make up for it.
6. Are you traveling all by yourself?
No. One of my best friends who I have known for over 20 years is coming along for most of the trip. He will be the other American in my photos.
7. Can I come with you guys? I need 8 months off!
No.
